Njabulo – Joy

Maureen Clifford ©  The Scribbly Bark Poet

See the war shields black as midnight
see the high storm clouds at noon
see the egret whitely feathered
see the evenings coming gloom

Hear the lions harsh roars echoing
‘cross the veld where grass is gold
see cloud over Kilimanjaro,
feel the evening wind cold.

Watch the elephant move slowly,
stately - ponderously graze.
Sniff the scent of wild mimosa,
glory in these glorious days.

Meerkat group outside their burrows
standing tall indignantly
as the shadow of the hawk glides
overhead malignantly.

Ndebele – ancient warriors
guard their cattle, know their worth.
Man and nature work together
all are blessed by the good earth.
